Chapter 34: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.34.27

एवमुक्तो नृपतिना रामो धर्मभृतां वरः।
प्रत्युवाचाञ्जलिं कृत्वा पितरं वाक्यकोविदः॥

evam ukto nṛpatinā rāmo dharmabhṛtāṁ varaḥ
pratyuvācāñjaliṁ kṛtvā pitaraṁ vākya-kovidaḥ

evam = thus; uktaḥ = spoke; nṛpatinā = when the king; rāmaḥ = Rāma; dharmabhṛtām = of the upholders of Vedic dharma; varaḥ = the best; pratyuvāca = replied; añjalim kṛtvā = joined His palms in supplication and; pitaram = to His father [as follows]; vākya-kovidaḥ = and expert in speech.

When the king spoke thus, Rāma, the best of the upholders of Vedic dharma and expert in speech, joined His palms in supplication and replied to His father [as follows].
