Chapter 34: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.34.30

रुदन्नार्तः प्रियं पुत्रं सत्यपाशेन संयतः।
कैकेय्या चोद्यमानस्तु मिथो राजा तमब्रवीत्॥

rudann ārtaḥ priyaṁ putraṁ satya-pāśena saṁyataḥ
kaikeyyā codyamānas tu mitho rājā tam abravīt

rudan = crying; ārtaḥ = in sorrow; priyam = over his dear; putram = son; satya-pāśena = by the noose of truthfulness; saṁyataḥ = bound; kaikeyyā = by Kaikeyī; codyamānaḥ tu = impelled; mithaḥ = in privacy; rājā = the king; tam = Him; abravīt = told.

Crying in sorrow over his dear son, bound by the noose of truthfulness, impelled by Kaikeyī in privacy, the king told Him the following.

Kaikeyī had privately urged Daśaratha to banish Rāma that very day.
