Chapter 34: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.34.49
न च शक्यं मया तात स्थातुं क्षणमपि प्रभो।
न शोकं धारयस्वैनं न हि मेऽस्ति विपर्ययः॥
na ca śakyaṁ mayā tāta sthātuṁ kṣaṇam api prabho
na śokaṁ dhārayasvainaṁ na hi me ’sti viparyayaḥ
na ca śakyam mayā = I cannot; tāta = dear father; sthātum = stay in this city; kṣaṇam = a moment; api = for even; prabho = and master; na śokam dhārayasva = stop lamenting; enam = about this; na = no; hi = for; me = Me; asti = there is; viparyayaḥ = stopping.
Dear father and master, I cannot stay in this city for even a moment. Stop lamenting about this, for there is no stopping Me.
Rāma had resolved to depart to the forest and so that could not be stopped.
