Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 34: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Meet Daśaratha
Text 2.34.50

अर्थितो ह्यस्मि कैकेय्या वनं गच्छेति राघव।
मया चोक्तं व्रजामीति तत्सत्यमनुपालये॥

arthito hy asmi kaikeyyā vanaṁ gaccheti rāghava
mayā coktaṁ vrajāmīti tat satyam anupālaye

arthitaḥ hi asmi = has ordered Me; kaikeyyā = Queen Kaikeyī; vanam = to the forest; gaccha iti = go; rāghava = Rāghava; mayā = I; ca = and; uktam = have told her; vrajāmi iti = “[Yes.] I will go”; tat = so; satyam anupālaye = I will be truthful to My word.

Queen Kaikeyī has ordered Me, “Rāghava, go to the forest.” And I have told her, “[Yes.] I will go.” So I will be truthful to My word.

Rāma now informs Daśaratha that He is not going to the forest just to protect Daśaratha’s word of honor. He is going to protect His own word of honor.
