Chapter 37: Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā Wear Clothes of Bark
Text 2.37.23
न गन्तव्यं वनं देव्या सीतया शीलवर्जिते।
अनुष्ठास्यति रामस्य सीता प्रकृतमासनम्॥
na gantavyaṁ vanaṁ devyā sītayā śīla-varjite
anuṣṭhāsyati rāmasya sītā prakṛtam āsanam
na = not; gantavyam = should go; vanam = to the forest; devyā sītayā = Sītā-devī; śīla-varjite = you characterless woman; anuṣṭhāsyati = will sit on; rāmasya = on behalf of Rāma; sītā = Sītā; prakṛtam = this disputed; āsanam = throne.
You characterless woman, Sītā-devī should not go to the forest. Sītā will sit on this disputed throne on behalf of Rāma.
