Chapter 38: Rāma Requests the King to Take Care of His Mother Kausalyā
Text 2.38.15
इयं धार्मिक कौसल्या मम माता यशस्विनी।
वृद्धा चाक्षुद्रशीला च न च त्वां देव गर्हते॥
iyaṁ dhārmika kausalyā mama mātā yaśasvinī
vṛddhā cākṣudra-śīlā ca na ca tvāṁ deva garhate
iyam = here is; dhārmika = O dhārmika; kausalyā = Queen Kausalyā; mama = My; mātā = mother; yaśasvinī = illustrious; vṛddhā ca = she is old; akṣudra-śīlā = magnanimous in character; ca = and; na ca = not; tvām = you; deva = king; garhate = she does despise.
O dhārmika king, here is Queen Kausalyā, My illustrious mother. She is old and magnanimous in character. She does not despise you.
