वचनं राघवस्यैतद्धर्मयुक्तं समाहितम्।
शुश्रुवुस्ताः स्त्रियः सर्वाः शोकोपहतचेतसः॥
vacanaṁ rāghavasyaitad dharma-yuktaṁ samāhitam
śuśruvus tāḥ striyaḥ sarvāḥ śokopahata-cetasaḥ
vacanam = words; rāghavasya = of Rāghava; etat = these; dharma-yuktam = that were in line with dharma; samāhitam = and that were spoken for the right purpose; śuśruvuḥ = heard; tāḥ = those; striyaḥ = ladies; sarvāḥ = all; śoka-upahata-cetasaḥ = their minds afflicted by distress.
All those ladies, their minds afflicted by distress, heard these words of Rāghava that were in line with dharma and that were spoken for the right purpose.1
1 Lord Rāmacandra is thus teaching us that we should always nonduplicitously and nondiplomatically respect our dhārmika mothers and fathers, and be careful to seek forgiveness from them for any harshness that we might have exhibited to them, intentionally or even unintentionally.
