Chapter 41: Ayodhyā Suffers After Rāma’s Departure
Text 2.41.6
अहो निश्चेतनो राजा जीवलोकस्य सम्प्रियम्।
धर्म्यं सत्यव्रतं रामं वनवासे प्रवत्स्यति॥
aho niścetano rājā jīva-lokasya sampriyam
dharmyaṁ satya-vrataṁ rāmaṁ vana-vāse pravatsyati
aho = alas; niścetanaḥ = the senseless; rājā = king; jīva-lokasya = to the entire world of life; sampriyam = Rāma is fully pleasing; dharmyam = devoted to dharma; satya-vratam = and has vowed to be truthful; rāmam = Rāma; vana-vāse = to the forest; pravatsyati = is exiling.
Alas, the senseless king is exiling Rāma to the forest! Rāma is fully pleasing to the entire world of life, devoted to dharma and has vowed to be truthful.
