Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.1

यावत्तु निर्यतस्तस्य रजोरूपमदृश्यत।
नैवेक्ष्वाकुवरस्तावत्सञ्जहारात्मचक्षुषी॥

yāvat tu niryatas tasya rajo-rūpam adṛśyata
naivekṣvāku-varas tāvat sañjahārātma-cakṣuṣī

yāvat tu = as long as; niryataḥ tasya = by Rāma’s departure; rajaḥ-rūpam = the dust raised; adṛśyata = he was able to see; na eva = not; ikṣvāku-varaḥ = the excellent descendant of Ikṣvāku; tāvat sañjahāra = did close; ātma-cakṣuṣī = his eyes.

The excellent descendant of Ikṣvāku did not close his eyes as long as he was able to see the dust raised by Rāma’s departure.
