Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.12
निवृत्त्यैव निवृत्यैव सीदतो रथवर्त्मसु।
राज्ञो नाति बभौ रूपं ग्रस्तस्यांशुमतो यथा॥
nivṛttyaiva nivṛttyaiva sīdato ratha-vartmasu
rājño nātibabhau rūpaṁ grastasyāṁśumato yathā
nivṛttya eva nivṛttya eva = while he continuously deliberated; sīdataḥ = and became morose; ratha-vartmasu = on the roads that the chariot was passing through; rājñaḥ na atibabhau rūpam = the king did not appear well; grastasya = during an eclipse; aṁśumataḥ = the sun; yathā = he was like.
While he continuously deliberated and became morose, the king did not appear well on the roads that the chariot was passing through. He was like the sun during an eclipse.
