Chapter 42: Daśaratha Goes to Kausalyā’s Residence in Distress
Text 2.42.26
अथ गद्गदशब्दस्तु विलपन्मनुजाधिपः।
उवाच मृदु मन्दार्थं वचनं दीनमस्वरम्॥
atha gadgada-śabdas tu vilapan manujādhipaḥ
uvāca mṛdu mandārthaṁ vacanaṁ dīnam asvaram
atha gadgada-śabdaḥ tu = voice faltered; vilapan = while lamenting; manuja-adhipaḥ = the king’s; uvāca = he spoke; mṛdu = faintly; manda-artham = and without much thought; vacanam = the following words; dīnam = pitiable; asvaram = inaudibly.
While lamenting, the king’s voice faltered. He spoke the following pitiable words faintly, inaudibly and without much thought.1
