Chapter 43: Kausalyā Laments for Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa and Sītā
Text 2.43.1
ततः समीक्ष्य शयने सन्नं शोकेन पार्थिवम्।
कौसल्या पुत्रशोकार्ता तमुवाच महीपतिम्॥
tataḥ samīkṣya śayane sannaṁ śokena pārthivam
kausalyā putra-śokārtā tam uvāca mahī-patim
tataḥ samīkṣya = seeing; śayane = on the bed; sannam = dejected; śokena = in distress; pārthivam = the king; kausalyā = Kausalyā; putra-śoka-ārtā = was distressed over the sufferings of her son; tam = to the; uvāca = she spoke; mahī-patim = king [as follows].
Kausalyā was distressed over the sufferings of her son. Seeing the king on the bed dejected in distress, she spoke to the king [as follows].
