अनुरक्ता महात्मानं रामं सत्यपराक्रमम्।
अनुजग्मुः प्रयान्तं तं वनवासाय मानवाः॥
anuraktā mahātmānaṁ rāmaṁ satya-parākramam
anujagmuḥ prayāntaṁ taṁ vana-vāsāya mānavāḥ
anuraktāḥ = attached to; mahā-ātmānam = the great soul; rāmam = Rāma; satya-parākramam = whose endeavors never failed; anujagmuḥ = followed; prayāntam = who had departed; tam = Him; vana-vāsāya = to live in the forest; mānavāḥ = the men [of Ayodhyā].
Attached to the great soul Rāma whose endeavors never failed, the men [of Ayodhyā] followed Him who had departed to live in the forest.
Having completed his description [of Rāma’s parents in Ayodhyā] up to Sumitrā’s consolation of Kausalyā, the author now begins to describe Rāma’s departure.
