yathā-nilayam āyadbhir nilīnāni mṛga-dvijaiḥ

paśya = look; śūnyāni = because they are devoid of light; araṇyāni = the forests; rudanti = to be crying; iva = appear; samantataḥ = around us; yathā-nilayam = to their respective homes; āyadbhiḥ = returning; nilīnāni = and are filled; mṛga-dvijaiḥ = with animals and birds.

Look, the forests around us appear to be crying because they are devoid of light and are filled with animals and birds returning to their respective homes.
