Chapter 46: Rāma Leaves the Brāhmaṇas to go to the Forest
Text 2.46.17

गोकुलाकुलतीरायास्तमसाया विदूरतः।
अवसत्तत्र तां रात्रिं रामः प्रकृतिभिः सह॥

go-kulākula-tīrāyās tamasāyā vidūrataḥ
avasat tatra tāṁ rātriṁ rāmaḥ prakṛtibhiḥ saha

go-kula-ākula-tīrāyāḥ = from the bank that was crowded with herds of cows; tamasāyāḥ = of Tamasā; vidūrataḥ = at a distance; avasat = stayed; tatra = there; tām = that; rātrim = night; rāmaḥ = Rāma; prakṛtibhiḥ = the residents of the city 2; saha = along with.

Along with the residents of the city, Rāma stayed that night there, at a distance from the bank of Tamasā that was crowded with herds of cows.

Now the author resumes his previous description [of Rāma’s activities].
