कैकेय्या यदि चेद्राज्यं स्यादधर्म्यमनाथवत्।
न हि नो जीवितेनार्थः कुतः पुत्रैः कुतो धनैः॥
kaikeyyā yadi ced rājyaṁ syād adharmyam anāthavat
na hi no jīvitenārthaḥ kutaḥ putraiḥ kuto dhanaiḥ
kaikeyyāḥ = Kaikeyī; yadi cet = if; rājyam syāt = were to have the kingdom; adharmyam = it will not be in accordance with dharma; anāthavat = and as if without a protector; na hi = no; naḥ = for us; jīvitena = when our very lives; arthaḥ = are of use; kutaḥ = what is the use of; putraiḥ = sons; kutaḥ dhanaiḥ = and wealth.
If Kaikeyī were to have the kingdom, it would not be in accordance with dharma and as if without a protector. What is the use of sons and wealth for us when our very lives are of no use?
yayā putraś ca bhartā ca tyaktāv aiśvarya-kāraṇāt
kaṁ sā parihared anyaṁ kaikeyī kula-pāṁsanī
