Chapter 48: The Ladies in Ayodhyā Lament
Text 2.48.26
न हि प्रव्रजिते रामे जीविष्यति महीपतिः।
मृते दशरथे व्यक्तं विलापस्तदनन्तरम्॥
na hi pravrajite rāme jīviṣyati mahī-patiḥ
mṛte daśarathe vyaktaṁ vilāpas tad anantaram
na = not; hi = surely; pravrajite = is banished; rāme = when Rāma; jīviṣyati = will live; mahī-patiḥ = the king; mṛte = is dead; daśarathe = when Daśaratha; vyaktam = obviously; vilāpaḥ = there will be lamentation [all around]; tat anantaram = after that.
The king will surely not live when Rāma is banished. After that, when Daśaratha is dead, obviously there will be lamentation [all around].
When Daśaratha dies, there will be lamentation, that is, destruction [all around leading to public lamentation].
