Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 48: The Ladies in Ayodhyā Lament
Text 2.48.29
पूर्णचन्द्राननः श्यामो गूढजत्रुररिन्दमः।
आजानुबाहुः पद्माक्षो रामो लक्ष्मणपूर्वजः॥
pūrṇa-candrānanaḥ śyāmo gūḍha-jatrur arindamaḥ
ājānu-bāhuḥ padmākṣo rāmo lakṣmaṇa-pūrvajaḥ
pūrṇa-candra-ānanaḥ = His face is like the full moon; śyāmaḥ = is dark; gūḍha-jatruḥ = His collar-bone is invisible 3; arindamaḥ = He subdues His opponents; ājānu-bāhuḥ = His arms reach up to His knees; padma-akṣaḥ = His eyes are like lotuses; rāmaḥ = Rāma; lakṣmaṇa-pūrvajaḥ = He is the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa.
Rāma is dark. His face is like the full moon. His collar-bone is invisible. He subdues His opponents. His arms reach up to His knees. His eyes are like lotuses. He is the elder brother of Lakṣmaṇa.
Unable to tolerate being separated from Him, they satisfied themselves by glorifying His transcendental qualities with the consideration, “Rāma has performed an impossible feat.”
