Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 50: The Meeting of Rāma and Guha
Text 2.50.12

तत्र त्रिपथगां दिव्यां शिवतोयामशैवलाम्।
ददर्श राघवो गङ्गां पुण्यामृषिनिषेविताम्॥

tatra tri-pathagāṁ divyāṁ śiva-toyām aśaivalām
dadarśa rāghavo gaṅgāṁ puṇyām ṛṣi-niṣevitām

tatra = there; tri-pathagām = of three paths; divyām = the divine; śiva-toyām = her water was clear; aśaivalām = she was free from moss; dadarśa = saw; rāghavaḥ = Rāghava; gaṅgām = Gaṅgā; puṇyām = pious; ṛṣi-niṣevitām = and a shelter for the sages.

Rāghava saw there the divine Gaṅgā of three paths. Her water was clear. She was free from moss, pious and a shelter for the sages.

Gaṅgā flowed through Svarga, Bhūmi and Pātāla; therefore, it is said to be of three paths (tri-pathagām).
