Chapter 50: The Meeting of Rāma and Guha
Text 2.50.35
तमार्तः सम्परिष्वज्य गुहो राघवमब्रवीत्।
यथायोध्या तथेयं ते राम किं करवाणि ते॥
tam ārtaḥ sampariṣvajya guho rāghavam abravīt
yathāyodhyā tatheyaṁ te rāma kiṁ karavāṇi te
tam = the; ārtaḥ = was distressed; sampariṣvajya = he embraced and; guhaḥ = Guha; rāghavam = descendant of Raghu; abravīt = said; yathā = just as; ayodhyā = Ayodhyā; tathā = is also [Yours]; iyam = this [city of mine]; te = is Yours; rāma = Rāma; kim = what; karavāṇi = can I do; te = for You.
Guha was distressed. He embraced the descendant of Raghu and said: “Rāma, just as Ayodhyā is Yours, this [city of mine] is also [Yours]. What can I do for You?
Guha was distressed, that is, anguished upon seeing Rāma dressed in bark. It can be inferred from this that Rāma was Guha’s friend from the past when He went on hunting and so on.
