By good fortune, Guha, I see you in good health with your relatives. Is everything well in your kingdom, circle of friends and treasury?
yat tv idaṁ bhavatā kiñcit prītyā samupakalpitam
sarvaṁ tad anujānāmi na hi varte pratigrahe
yat tu = that; idam = this; bhavatā = you; kiñcit1 prītyā = lovingly; samupakalpitam = have prepared; sarvam tat = all; anujānāmi = I acknowledge; na hi varte = [but] I don’t subsist; pratigrahe = on charity.
Lord Rāmacandra acknowledged that Guha had presented everything out of love for Him.
It is implied in this verse tht Rāma had not taken shelter of the dharma of accepting charity.
NOTE. Dhārmika kṣatriyas don’t accept charity. Prabhupāda notes this while summarizing Bhīṣmadeva’s instructions to Yudhiṣṭhira from the Mahābhārata as follows:
The kṣatriya, the member of the administrative class, is especially advised to give charity and not to accept charity in any circumstances. Modern administrators raise subscriptions for some political functions, but never give charity to the citizens in any state function. It is just the reverse in the injunctions of the śāstras. (Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.9.26 purport)
