Chapter 51: Guha and Lakṣmaṇa Converse at Night
Text 2.51.8
लक्ष्मणस्तं तदोवाच रक्ष्यमाणास्त्वयानघ।
नात्र भीता वयं सर्वे धर्ममेवानुपश्यता॥
lakṣmaṇas taṁ tadovāca rakṣyamāṇās tvayānagha
nātra bhītā vayaṁ sarve dharmam evānupaśyatā
lakṣmaṇaḥ = Lakṣmaṇa; tam = him; tadā = then; uvāca = told; rakṣyamāṇāḥ = [for we] are protected; tvayā = by you; anagha = sinless Guha; na = none; atra = here; bhītāḥ = are frightened; vayam sarve = of us; dharmam eva = dharma; anupaśyatā = who observe.
Lakṣmaṇa then told him: “Sinless Guha, none of us here are frightened [for we] are protected by you who observe dharma.
Lakṣmaṇa then anticipated that Guha might have wondered, “If you are not afraid, why are You awake?” and so spoke the following verse.
