Chapter 51: Guha and Lakṣmaṇa Converse at Night
Text 2.51.15
जीवेदपि हि मे माता शत्रुघ्नस्यान्ववेक्षया।
तद्दुःखं यत्तु कौसल्या वीरसूर्विनशिष्यति॥
jīved api hi me mātā śatrughnasyānvavekṣayā
tad duḥkhaṁ yat tu kausalyā vīrasūr vinaśiṣyati
jīvet = lives; api hi = even if; me = My; mātā = mother; śatrughnasya = of Śatrughna; anvavekṣayā = under the loving care; tat duḥkham = will be distressful to her; yat tu = the fact that; kausalyā = Kausalyā; vīrasūḥ = the mother of a great hero; vinaśiṣyati = will perish.
“Even if My mother lives under the loving care of Śatrughna, the fact that Kausalyā, the mother of a great hero, will perish will be distressful to her.
