Chapter 51: Guha and Lakṣmaṇa Converse at Night
Text 2.51.27

तथाहि सत्यं ब्रुवति प्रजाहिते नरेन्द्रपुत्रे गुरुसौहृदाद्गुहः।
मुमोच बाष्पं व्यसनाभिपीडितो ज्वरातुरो नाग इव व्यथातुरः॥

tathā hi satyaṁ bruvati prajā-hite
narendra-putre guru-sauhṛdād guhaḥ
mumoca bāṣpaṁ vyasanābhipīḍito
jvarāturo nāga iva vyathāturaḥ

tathā hi satyam = these facts; bruvati = spoke; prajā-hite = about the welfare of the citizens; nara-indra-putre = when Prince Lakṣmaṇa; guru-sauhṛdāt = out of affection for His elders; guhaḥ = Guha; mumoca = he shed; bāṣpam = tears; vyasana-abhipīḍitaḥ = became tormented by the calamities [faced by them]; jvara-āturaḥ = afflicted by fever; nāgaḥ = an elephant; iva = like; vyathā-āturaḥ = and afflicted by much pain.

When Prince Lakṣmaṇa spoke these facts about the welfare of the citizens out of affection for His elders, Guha was tormented by the calamities [faced by them] and afflicted by much pain. He shed tears like an elephant afflicted by fever.
