Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat
Text 2.52.6

अस्य वाहनसंयुक्तां कर्णग्राहवतीं शुभाम्।
सुप्रतारां दृढां तीर्थे शीघ्रं नावमुपाहर॥

asya vāhana-saṁyuktāṁ karṇagrāhavatīṁ śubhām
supratārāṁ dṛḍhāṁ tīrthe śīghraṁ nāvam upāhara

asya = for Rāma; vāhana-saṁyuktām = fitted with oars and so on; karṇagrāhavatīm = equipped with a helmsman 2; śubhām = a good; supratārām = it should be fully capable of crossing the river; dṛḍhām = it should be well-built; tīrthe = to the shore; śīghram = quickly; nāvam = boat; upāhara = bring.

Quickly bring a good boat to the shore for Rāma. It should be well-built, equipped with a helmsman and fitted with oars and so on. It should be fully capable of crossing the river.

Dṛḍhām (“it should be well-built”) indicates that it should have been constructed with very firm joints.1 Tīrthe indicates that Guha wanted the boat to be brought to a port.

1 Note the attention to the details in Guha’s service to Bhagavān Rāmacandra. This is a lesson for all who want to fulfill the desires of the Lord or His personal associates.
