Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat
Text 2.52.44
आर्तनादो हि यः पौरैर्मुक्तस्त्वद्विप्रवासने।
सरथं मां निशम्यैव कुर्युः शतगुणं ततः॥
ārta-nādo hi yaḥ paurair muktas tvad-vipravāsane
sarathaṁ māṁ niśāmyaiva kuryuḥ śata-guṇaṁ tataḥ
ārta-nādaḥ hi yaḥ = loudly; pauraiḥ = the residents of Ayodhyā; muktaḥ = when they cried; tvat-vipravāsane = when You were banished; saratham = with the chariot [but without You]; mām = me; niśāmya = by seeing; eva = just; kuryuḥ = would cry; śata-guṇam = a hundred times louder; tataḥ = than.
Just by seeing me with the chariot [but without You], the residents of Ayodhyā would cry a hundred times louder than when they cried loudly when You were banished.
