Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat
Text 2.52.74
स तु दृष्ट्वा नदीतीरे नावमिक्ष्वाकुनन्दनः।
तितीर्षुः शीघ्रगां गङ्गामिदं लक्ष्मणमब्रवीत्॥
sa tu dṛṣṭvā nadī-tīre nāvam ikṣvāku-nandanaḥ
titīrṣuḥ śīghragāṁ gaṅgām idaṁ lakṣmaṇam abravīt
saḥ tu = the; dṛṣṭvā = saw; nadī-tīre = on the bank of the river; nāvam = a boat; ikṣvāku-nandanaḥ = beloved descendant of Ikṣvāku; titīrṣuḥ = desiring to cross over; śīghragām = the swiftly flowing; gaṅgām = Gaṅgā; idam = the following; lakṣmaṇam = to Lakṣmaṇa; abravīt = He spoke.
The beloved descendant of Ikṣvāku saw a boat on the bank of the river. Desiring to cross over the swiftly flowing Gaṅgā, He spoke the following to Lakṣmaṇa.
