Chapter 52: Rāma Crosses the Gaṅgā on Guha’s Boat

अथाब्रवीन्महाबाहुः सुमित्रानन्दवर्धनम्।
भव संरक्षणार्थाय सजने विजनेऽपि वा॥
athābravīn mahā-bāhuḥ sumitrānanda-vardhanam
bhava saṁrakṣaṇārthāya sajane vijane’pi vā
atha = then; abravīt = told; mahā-bāhuḥ = the mighty-armed Rāma; sumitrā-ānanda-vardhanam = Lakṣmaṇa who enhanced the joy of Sumitrā; bhava = be attentive; saṁrakṣaṇa-arthāya = to protect [Sītā]; sajane = in populated; vijane = depopulated places; api vā = and.
Then the mighty-armed Rāma told Lakṣmaṇa who enhanced the joy of Sumitrā: Be attentive to protect [Sītā] in populated and depopulated places.
