tāṁ vṛkṣa-parṇa-cchadanāṁ manojñāṁ
yathā-pradeśaṁ sukṛtāṁ nivātām
vāsāya sarve viviśuḥ sametāḥ
sabhāṁ yathā deva-gaṇāḥ sudharmām
tām = the residence; vṛkṣa-parṇa-chadanām = with a roof made of leaves from a tree; manojñām = Rāma’s residence was charming; yathā-pradeśam = according to the scriptures; sukṛtām = it was well-constructed; nivātām = and could resist [strong] wind; vāsāya = to stay there; sarve = the three of them; viviśuḥ = then entered; sametāḥ = together; sabhām = assembly hall; yathā = just as; deva-gaṇāḥ = the devas entered; sudharmām = the Sudharmā.
The three of them then entered the residence together to stay there just as the devas entered the Sudharmā assembly hall. Rāma’s residence was charming, with a roof made of leaves from a tree. It was well constructed according to the scriptures and could resist [strong] wind.
The house was well constructed according to the scriptures, that is, in line without transgressing the scriptural rules [regarding which region of the house should be used for which purpose] such as the scriptural rule āgneyyāṁ pāka-śālā, “The kitchen [should be] the south-eastern [part of the house].”
