Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.5
ततः सायाह्नसमये तृतीयेऽहनि सारथिः।
अयोध्यां समनुप्राप्य निरानन्दां ददर्श ह॥
tataḥ sāyāhna-samaye tṛtīye ’hani sārathiḥ
ayodhyāṁ samanuprāpya nirānandāṁ dadarśa ha
tataḥ sāyāhna-samaye = in the evening; tṛtīye = on the third part; ahani = of that day; sārathiḥ = the charioteer; ayodhyām = Ayodhyā; samanuprāpya = reached and; nirānandām = it to be devoid of any happiness; dadarśa ha = found.
The charioteer reached Ayodhyā on the third part of that day in the evening and found it to be devoid of any happiness.
