Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.16
स राजमार्गमध्येन सुमन्त्रः पिहिताननः।
यत्र राजा दशरथस्तदेवोपययौ गृहम्॥
sa rāja-mārga-madhyena sumantraḥ pihitānanaḥ
yatra rājā daśarathas tad evopayayau gṛham
saḥ1 rāja-mārga-madhyena = through the grand road; sumantraḥ = Sumantra; pihita-ānanaḥ = covered his face and; yatra = where was; rājā = King; daśarathaḥ = Daśaratha; tat eva = to the; upayayau = went; gṛham = house.
Sumantra covered his face and went through the grand road to the house where King Daśaratha was.1
Sumantra was unable to see the people [out of embarrassment].
