Chapter 57: Sumantra Returns to Ayodhyā
Text 2.57.23
सत्यरूपं तु तद्वाक्यं राज्ञः स्त्रीणां निशामयन्।
प्रदीप्त इव शोकेन विवेश सहसा गृहम्॥
satya-rūpaṁ tu tad vākyaṁ rājñaḥ strīṇāṁ niśāmayan
pradīpta iva śokena viveśa sahasā gṛham
satya-rūpam tu = of truth; tat = those; vākyam = words; rājñaḥ = of the king; strīṇām = spoken by the wives; niśāmayan = hearing; pradīptaḥ = burnt; iva = as if; śokena = by anguish; viveśa = Sumantra entered; sahasā = immediately; gṛham = the house.
Hearing those words of truth spoken by the wives of the king, Sumantra immediately entered the house, as if burnt by anguish.
