Chapter 59: Sumantra Describes the Agony of all Creatures in the Country
Text 2.59.13

अत्रोद्यानानि शून्यानि प्रलीनविहगानि च।
न चाभिरामानारामान्पश्यामि मनुजर्षभ॥

atrodyānāni śūnyāni pralīna-vihagāni ca
na cābhirāmān ārāmān paśyāmi manuja-rṣabha

atra = here; udyānāni = gardens 5; śūnyāni = devoid of people; pralīna-vihagāni = with birds such as parrots and cuckoos that had fainted in their nests; ca = and; na ca abhirāmān = devoid of beauty; ārāmān = and pleasure grooves; paśyāmi = I saw; manuja-ṛṣabha = O best of men.

O best of men, I saw gardens here devoid of people and with birds such as parrots and cuckoos that had fainted in their nests, and pleasure groves devoid of beauty.

Ārāmān (“pleasure groves”) refer to artificial forests 6.
