Chapter 59: Sumantra Describes the Agony of all Creatures in the Country
Text 2.59.30
अतो नु किं दुःखतरं योऽहमिक्ष्वाकुनन्दनम्।
इमामवस्थामापन्नो नेह पश्यामि राघवम्॥
ato nu kiṁ duḥkhataraṁ yo ’ham ikṣvāku-nandanam
imām avasthām āpanno neha paśyāmi rāghavam
ataḥ = after; nu kim = what could be; duḥkhataram = more sorrowful; yaḥ = who; aham = for me; ikṣvāku-nandanam = the beloved of the Ikṣvākus; imām = this [lamentable]; avasthām = state of affairs; āpannaḥ = I have reached; na = cannot; iha = now; paśyāmi = see; rāghavam = Rāghava.
What could be more sorrowful for me who cannot see Rāghava, the beloved of the Ikṣvākus, now after I have reached this [lamentable] state of affairs?
