यद्यपि त्रिषु लोकेषु प्रथितं ते महद्यशः।
सानुक्रोशो वदान्यश्च प्रियवादी च राघवः॥
कथं नरवरश्रेष्ठ पुत्रौ तौ सह सीतया।
दुःखितौ सुखसंवृद्धौ वने दुःखं सहिष्यतः॥
yady api triṣu lokeṣu prathitaṁ te mahad yaśaḥ
sānukrośo vadānyaś ca priya-vādī ca rāghavaḥ
kathaṁ nara-vara-śreṣṭha putrau tau saha sītayā
duḥkhitau sukha-saṁvṛddhau vane duḥkhaṁ sahiṣyataḥ
yadi api = though; triṣu = throughout the three; lokeṣu = worlds; prathitam = is spread; te = your; mahat = great; yaśaḥ = fame; sānukrośaḥ = is compassionate; vadānyaḥ = magnanimous; ca = and; priya-vādī = sweet in speech; ca = and; rāghavaḥ = Rāma, the descendant of Raghu; katham = how will; nara-vara-śreṣṭha = O king; putrau = sons; tau = those two; saha sītayā = and Sītā; duḥkhitau = facing difficulties on the way; sukha-saṁvṛddhau = [since] they grew up in comfort; vane = of the forest; duḥkham = the miseries; sahiṣyataḥ = will tolerate.
O king, though your great fame is spread throughout the three worlds and Rāma, the descendant of Raghu, is compassionate, magnanimous and sweet in speech, how will those two sons and Sītā, facing difficulties on the way, tolerate the miseries of the forest [since] they grew up in comfort?
Rāghavaḥ can refer to Daśaratha here. Though he is greatly famous in the three worlds as being compassionate, magnanimous and sweet in speech, he has performed an act that has made him greatly infamous.
Daśaratha obtained his eldest son with great endeavor in his old age. He had carried out vows, fasted and so on. At the time of coronating Him, Daśaratha took up his promise [to Kaikeyī]. This is his great fame that has spread throughout the three worlds. Rāma, the descendant of Raghu, out of His magnanimity, compassion and His habitual sweet speech, gave the kingdom [away to Bharata] due to His inability to say, “I can’t give up the kingdom. It has not been given to anyone so far and it is given to Me now.” So, this is the cause of His great fame too [among the three worlds]. Kausalyā [sarcastically] conveyed that such great fame might have befitted both of them; but how will Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa [and Sītā-devī] tolerate the distress [of living in the forest]?
