Chapter 61: Kausalyā Condemns Daśaratha in Extreme Distress
Text 2.61.25
द्विजातिचरितो धर्मः शास्त्रदृष्टः सनातनः।
यदि ते धर्मनिरते त्वया पुत्रे विवासिते॥
dvi-jāti-carito dharmaḥ śāstra-dṛṣṭaḥ sanātanaḥ
yadi te dharma-nirate tvayā putre vivāsite
dvi-jāti-caritaḥ = it is carried out by the twice-born; dharmaḥ = follow dharma; śāstra-dṛṣṭaḥ = it is seen in the Vedic scriptures; sanātanaḥ = and is eternal; yadi te = do you; dharma-nirate = absorbed in that dharma; tvayā = now that you; putre = your son; vivāsite = have banished.
Now that you have banished your son absorbed in that dharma, do you follow dharma? It is carried out by the twice-born. It is seen in the Vedic scriptures and is eternal.

Dharma is carried out by the civilized members of the higher three varṇas.
