Chapter 63: Daśaratha Remembering Killing a Sage’s Innocent Son

नाहं तथानुशोचामि जीवितक्षयमात्मनः।
मातरं पितरं चोभावनुशोचामि मद्वधे॥
nāhaṁ tathānuśocāmi jīvita-kṣayam ātmanaḥ
mātaraṁ pitaraṁ cobhāv anuśocāmi mad-vadhe
na = don’t; aham = I; tathā anuśocāmi = lament; jīvita-kṣayam = for the destruction; ātmanaḥ = of my life; mātaram = my mother; pitaram = father; ca = and; ubhau anuśocāmi = [but] I do lament about [the condition of]; mat-vadhe = after my death.
“I don’t lament for the destruction of my life. [But] I do lament about [the condition of] my mother and father after my death.
