tatra = there; śrutaḥ = heard; mayā = I; śabdaḥ = the sound; jale = with water; kumbhasya = of a pot; pūryataḥ = being filled; dvipaḥ = to be an elephant; ayam = the source of that sound; iti matvā = thinking; ayam = at it; bāṇena = an arrow; abhihataḥ = shot; mayā = I.
I heard the sound of a pot being filled with water there. Thinking the source of that sound to be an elephant, I shot an arrow at it.
