Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

सप्तधा तु फलेन्मूर्धा मुनौ तपसि तिष्ठति।
ज्ञानाद्विसृजतः शस्त्रं तादृशे ब्रह्मवादिनि॥
saptadhā tu phalen mūrdhā munau tapasi tiṣṭhati
jñānād visṛjataḥ śastraṁ tādṛśe brahma-vādini
saptadhā tu = into seven pieces; phalet = will shatter; mūrdhā = the head of a person; munau = at a sage; tapasi = in austerity; tiṣṭhati = situated; jñānāt = who has knowingly; visṛjataḥ = discharged; śastram = a weapon; tādṛśe = like him; brahma-vādini = who is in knowledge of the Supreme Soul.
The head of a person who has knowingly discharged a weapon at a sage situated in austerity like him, who is in knowledge of the Supreme Soul, will shatter into seven pieces.
“Into seven pieces” is merely indicative, it means “into many parts.”
In some manuscripts, brahmacāriṇi appears in the place of brahmavādini 3. [The meaning is practically the same.]
