कन्दमूलफलं हृत्वा को मां प्रियमिवातिथिम्।
भोजयिष्यत्यकर्मण्यमप्रग्रहमनायकम्॥
kanda-mūla-phalaṁ hṛtvā ko māṁ priyam ivātithim
bhojayiṣyaty akarmaṇyam apragraham anāyakam
kanda-mūla-phalam = roots from the water and land as well as fruits; hṛtvā = will fetch; kaḥ = who; mām = me; priyam = a dear; iva = like; ātithim = uninvited guest; bhojayiṣyati = and feed; akarmaṇyam = I am incapable of doing anything; apragraham = I have not accumulated any wild rice or so on; anāyakam = I have no one to take care of [us] and protect [us].

Roots from the water refers to roots of the lotus and so on growing in the water.
