Chapter 64: Daśaratha Gives up his Life in Remembrance of Lord Rāma

चित्तनाशाद्विपद्यन्ते सर्वाण्येवेन्द्रियाणि मे।
क्षीणस्नेहस्य दीपस्य संसक्ता रश्मयो यथा॥
citta-nāśād vipadyante sarvāṇy evendriyāṇi me
kṣiṇa-snehasya dīpasya saṁsaktā raśmayo yathā
citta-nāśāt = because my mind is destroyed; vipadyante = are destroyed; sarvāṇi eva = all; indriyāṇi = senses; me = of my; kṣiṇa-snehasya = devoid of its oil [are destroyed]; dīpasya = from a lamp; saṁsaktāḥ = emanating; raśmayaḥ = the rays; yathā = just as.
Because my mind is destroyed, all of my senses are destroyed just as the rays emanating from a lamp devoid of its oil [are destroyed].
Because his heart has shattered, he has no experience of sound and so on. He states this in this verse.
Saṁsaktāḥ indicates that the rays of the lamp cannot exist without the lamp just as when the oil of a lamp is exhausted. The flame of the lamp stops burning and its rays disappear. Similarly when the mind stops functioning because of the slackness of the body, the senses become devastated. This is indicated here.
