उभौ भरतशत्रुघ्नौ कैकयेषु परंतपौ।
पुरे राजगृहे रम्ये मातामहनिवेशने॥
ubhau bharata-śatrughnau kaikayeṣu parantapau
pure rājagṛhe ramye mātāmaha-niveśane
ubhau bharata-śatrughnau = Bharata and Śatrughna; kaikayeṣu = in the land of Kekaya; parantapau = the scorcher of their enemies; pure = city; rājagṛhe = of Rājagṛha; ramye = in the pleasant; mātāmaha-niveśane = are in the home of Their maternal uncle.
The scorchers of Their enemies, Bharata and Śatrughna, are in the home of Their maternal uncle in the pleasant city of Rājagṛha in the land of Kekaya.1
1 Notice the order of the persons in the previous verse and this verse: Daśaratha, Rāma, Lakṣmaṇa, Bharata and Śatrughna. The throne was to pass down to each of them in this particular order under normal circumstances.
