Chapter 67: The Sages Request Vasiṣṭha to Coronate a son of Daśaratha
Text 2.67.13

नाराजके जनपदे यज्ञशीला द्विजातयः।
सत्राण्यन्वासते दान्ता ब्राह्मणाः संशितव्रताः॥

nārājake janapade yajña-śīlā dvijātayaḥ
satrāṇy anvāsate dāntā brāhmaṇāḥ saṁśita-vratāḥ

na = do not; arājake = without a bona fide king; janapade = in a place; yajña-śīlāḥ = and who are inclined to perform fire sacrifices; dvijātayaḥ = the twice-born; satrāṇi = satra sacrifices; anvāsate = perform; dāntāḥ = who are sense-controlled; brāhmaṇāḥ = who study the Vedas; saṁśita-vratāḥ = who firmly adhere to their vows.

In a place without a bona fide king, the twice-born who study the Vedas, who are sense controlled, who firmly adhere to their vows and who are inclined to perform fire sacrifices do not perform satra sacrifices.

Satra is great sacrifice conducted by all sponsors and sacrificial priests.

The brāhmaṇas would not perform such satras out of fear of obstacles [to such performances].
