Chapter 67: The Sages Request Vasiṣṭha to Coronate a son of Daśaratha
Text 2.67.38

स नः समीक्ष्य द्विजवर्य वृत्तं नृपं विना राज्यमरण्यभूतम्।
कुमारमिक्ष्वाकुसुतं वदान्यं त्वमेव राजानमिहाभिषिञ्च॥

sa naḥ samīkṣya dvija-varya vṛttaṁ
nṛpaṁ vinā rājyaṁ araṇya-bhūtam

kumāram ikṣvāku-sutaṁ vadānyaṁ
tvam eva rājānam ihābhiṣiñca

saḥ1 naḥ = our; samīkṣya = considering; dvija-varya = O best of the twice-born Vasiṣṭha; vṛttam = situation; nṛpam vinā = without the king; rājyam = and that the kingdom; araṇya-bhūtam = has become a jungle; kumāram = and young; ikṣvāku-sutam = son of Daśaratha; vadānyam = a magnanimous; tvam eva rājānam = as the king; iha = now; abhiṣiñca = please coronate.

O best of the twice-born, Vasiṣṭha, considering our situation and that the kingdom has become a jungle without the king, please coronate a magnanimous and young son of Daśaratha as the king now.

Everything had come to a standstill because the kingdom had no king.
