Chapter 71: Bharata Reaches Ayodhyā
Text 2.71.9

भागीरथीं दुष्प्रतरामंशुधाने महानदीम्।
उपायाद्राघवस्तूर्णं प्राग्वटे विश्रुते पुरे॥

bhāgīrathīṁ duṣpratarām aṁśudhāne mahā-nadīm
upāyād rāghavas tūrṇaṁ prāgvaṭe viśrute pure

bhāgīrathīm = Bhāgīrathī; duṣpratarām = could not be crossed over; aṁśudhāne = at Aṁśudhāna; mahā-nadīm = [understanding that] the great river; upāyāt = reached [the river]; rāghavaḥ = the descendant of Raghu; tūrṇam = quickly; prāgvaṭe = Prāgvaṭa; viśrute = at the famous; pure = city.

[Understanding that] the great river Bhāgīrathī could not be crossed over at Aṁśudhāna, the descendant of Raghu quickly reached [the river] at the famous city Prāgvaṭa.

Prāgvaṭa was famous for crossing over [Gaṅgā].1 Therefore, Bharata reached Prāgvaṭa.

1 Prāgvaṭa was famous as a place from which Gaṅgā could be crossed.
