Chapter 71: Bharata Reaches Ayodhyā
Text 2.71.41

dṛśyante vaṇijo ’py adya na yathā-pūrvam atra vai
dhyāna-saṁvigna-hṛdayā naṣṭa-vyāpāra-yantritāḥ
devāyatana-caityeṣu dīnāḥ pakṣi-gaṇās tathā

dṛśyante = I notice that; vaṇijaḥ api = the merchants are; adya na = not; yathā-pūrvam = what they used to be; atra vai = now; dhyāna-saṁvigna-hṛdayāḥ = their hearts are absorbed in meditation; naṣṭa-vyāpāra-yantritāḥ = their businesses have perished and the merchants have curbed them; deva-āyatana-caityeṣu = in temples and shrines; dīnāḥ = are morose; pakṣi-gaṇāḥ tathā = birds.

I notice that the merchants are not what they used to be. Their hearts are now absorbed in meditation. Their businesses have perished and the merchants have curbed them. In temples and shrines, birds are morose.
