Chapter 71: Bharata Reaches Ayodhyā
Text 2.71.45

बहूनि पश्यन्मनसोऽप्रियाणि यान्यन्यदा नास्य पुरे बभूवुः।
अवाक्छिरा दीनमना नहृष्टः पितुर्महात्मा प्रविवेश वेश्म॥

bahūni paśyan manaso ’priyāṇi
yāny anyadā nāsya pure babhūvuḥ
avāk-chirā dīna-manā nahṛṣṭaḥ
pitur mahātmā praviveśa veśma

bahūni = many [omens] that; paśyan = finding; manasaḥ = mind; apriyāṇi = distressed; yāni = [omens] that were; anyadā = in the past; na = not; asya = His; pure = in the city; babhūvuḥ = found; avāk-śirāḥ = turned His head down; dīna-manāḥ = with a morose mind; nahṛṣṭaḥ = and unhappily; pituḥ = His father’s; mahā-ātmā = the greatly tolerant Bharata; praviveśa = entered; veśma = residence.

Finding many [omens] that distressed His mind, [omens] that were not found in the city in the past, the greatly tolerant Bharata turned His head down with a morose mind and unhappily entered His father’s residence.

[3] pāpaṁ syāt krūra-pāpmanoḥ (Vaijayantī].
