Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 72: Kaikeyī Informs Bharata About Daśaratha’s Death
Text 2.72.20

तदिदं न विभात्यद्य विहीनं तेन धीमता।
व्योमेव शशिना हीनमप्शुष्क इव सागरः॥

tad idaṁ na vibhāty adya vihīnaṁ tena dhīmatā
vyomeva śaśinā hīnam ap-śuṣka iva sāgaraḥ

tat idam = it; na = does not; vibhāti = look nice; adya = now; vihīnam = without; tena = that; dhīmatā = intelligent [king]; vyoma = the sky; iva = like; śaśinā = the moon; hīnam = without; ap-śuṣkaḥ = dried up of water; iva = like; sāgaraḥ = the ocean.

Now it does not look nice without that intelligent [king] like the sky without the moon, like the ocean dried up of water.

In some manuscripts, ucchuṣkaḥ appears instead of ap-śuṣkaḥ. [The meaning of the verse is the same.]
