Chapter 74: Bharata Condemns Kaikeyī
Text 2.74.1
तां तथा गर्हयित्वा तु मातरं भरतस्तदा।
रोषेण महताविष्टः पुनरेवाब्रवीद्वचः॥
tāṁ tathā garhayitvā tu mātaraṁ bharatas tadā
roṣeṇa mahatāviṣṭaḥ punar evābravīd vacaḥ
tām = to her; tathā = thus; garhayitvā tu = having mildly criticized; mātaram = His mother; bharataḥ = Bharata; tadā roṣeṇa = anger; mahatā = with great; āviṣṭaḥ = became filled; punaḥ eva = and again; abravīt = spoke; vacaḥ = the following words.
Having mildly criticized His mother thus, Bharata became filled with great anger and again spoke to her the following words.
Bharata had criticized His mother mildly and in a general manner. Upon remembering her offenses, His anger increased and He then criticized her cruelly.
