Canto 2 -
Ayodhyā-kāṇḍa
Chapter 74: Bharata Condemns Kaikeyī
Text 2.74.2
राज्याद्भ्रंशस्व कैकेयि नृशंसे दुष्टचारिणि।
परित्यक्ता च धर्मेण मा मृतं रुदती भव॥
rājyād bhraṁśasva kaikeyī nṛśaṁse duṣṭacāriṇī
parityaktā ca dharmeṇa mā mṛtaṁ rudatī bhava
rājyāt = this kingdom; bhraṁśasva = get out of; kaikeyī = Kaikeyī; nṛśaṁse = cruel; duṣṭacāriṇī = of wicked acts; parityaktā ca = has abandoned you; dharmeṇa = dharma; mā mṛtam rudatī bhava = consider Me dead and cry.
Cruel Kaikeyī of wicked acts, get out of this kingdom!1 Dharma has abandoned you. Consider Me dead and cry!
Bharata wanted her to leave the kingdom just as her mother had [left the kingdom].1 She had [almost] killed Him by her acts and so He told her to consider Him dead. Mā mṛtaṁ rudatī bhava also indicates that He didn’t want her to cry for her dead husband because she hadn’t dealt with her husband as a wife should have.
